Kaws

In New York in den 90er Jahren übermalte der von der Street Art stammende Künstler KAWS, alias Brian Donnelly, noble Werbung. Er ersetzte die bekannten Models in den Plakaten durch eine fiktive Comic-Figur mit ge-ixten Augen. Diese Figur mit dem signifikanten Gesicht avancierte schnell zum Publikumsliebling und wurde zu KAWS Markenzeichen. In einem unaufhaltsamen Siegeszug eroberte sie die Kunstwelt. Die beiden X X wurden dabei zur Signatur eines innovativen Kunst-Konzeptes, das die gesamte Popkultur ergriff. KAWS erweiterte das Repertoire seiner Figuren und ließ sie plastisch werden. Mittlerweile gehört KAWS zu den begehrtesten Künstlern der Gegenwart. In überlebensgroßen Skulpturen blicken seine Figuren an vielen Orten in die Welt, als gehörten sie leibhaftig dazu. Wo immer sie auftreten oder in seltenen Editionen aufgelegt werden, können sich Ausstellungshäuser und Galerien vor Interessenten, Käufern und Fans kaum retten.

Brian Donnelly (geb. 1974), bekannt unter seinem Künstlernamen KAWS, ist ein amerikanischer Künstler und Designer. KAWS Arbeiten wurden mehrfach versteigert und ist in zahlreichen Galerien und Museen vertreten. Der Künstler lebt und arbeitet in New York.
