BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Classic artworks breaking with classic traditions:
The creations of the international artist from Belarus are of collage-like character – from their kaleidoscopic color schemes to the techniques of the artist. Despite the manifold sources of inspiration she accomplishes a feat with each individual piece almost appearing as an artistic act of a variety show. She creates works of art that capture the spark of passion behind the intense creative processes. In her works, art meets craft: The artist takes every single step of the production into her own hands – and only leaves hold as soon as her vision is realized: in form of artworks that are tangible and touching.
The creative process is sensual and physical act under the direction of the artist: She turns the models she has selected herself into canvas of her imagination and artfully puts them in the limelight, each in her own way. She merges not only various colors and shapes but also styles and techniques creating incomparable eclectic pieces. Dasha has the magic touch for light and space and thus skillfully utilizes the resources around her by adding an extra to the ordinary.
Her richness of ideas is encapsulated in concentrated form within her works, her approach does not match any traditional artform: She chooses unique forms of expression – through geometrical forms without staying in line: her series is ruled by “Freedom of Form”.
Her series demonstrates that freedom and anarchy are not equitable: They are products of intensely and precisely composed mise-en-scènes, arranged by an expert who unites various influences in every single piece. Not only does she paint over the lines of traditional artforms, she even paints colors and abstract shapes onto the faces and bodies of her models.
Every piece is one of a kind, in regard of colors, shapes, and technique, and light a beacon of non-conformity with powerful portraits radiating with elegance, dignity, and modernity.
The combination of classic motifs of the history of art results in a distinctive, loud, and meaningful visual language. References to icons from the past leap, from Frida Kahlo to Keith Haring, leap to the viewer’s eye. Elements from Constructivism, Expressionism, Cubism, and the Russian avant-garde blend within Dasha’s pieces. In addition, the costumes of the models appear almost like a surrealization of the haute couture scene, generating an almost dreamlike superimposition of levels of association.
The studied visual artist who absolved courses at special art schools as a child has graced covers of international magazines throughout her sparkling career, won numerous awards at prestigious art competitions, and was named both “Vitebsk Citizen of the Year” and “Best Professional Photographer of Europe” by the Association of European Photographers in 2020.
Inspired by her broad knowledge of the art world, her avant-garde, poppy works in the Freedom of Form series use historical elements to tell fresh, engaging and innovative stories.
