Mika Ninagawa

Mika Ninagawa hat die japanischen Popprinzessinnen der 90er-Jahre geschaffen und in grellen Farben provokant für Cover und Lifestyle-Magazine in Szene gesetzt. Ihr unverwechselbarer Stil der japanischen „girl photography“ zeigt eine große Nähe zur Anime- und Mangakultur. Ein Schönheitsideal, das mit märchenhafter Schminke in grellen Farben, einem porzellanhaften Teint und großen Unschuldsaugen einen eigenwilligen Neo-Pop zelebriert. Mit der Rebellin der elektronischen Musik als Hauptdarstellerin, dem Model Anna Tsuchiya, hat sie 2007 ihr Filmdebüt „Sakuran – Wilde Kirschblüte“ gefeiert und eine burleske Geisha-Geschichte nach dem gleichnamigen Mangabestseller inszeniert.

Ihre Bildästhetik ist fantasievoll und bunt, zuweilen schrill und oft mit opulenten Hintergründen aus farbenprächtigen Blütenteppichen inszeniert, die vor allem ihre Modefotografie charakterisieren.

Mika Ninagawas internationales Markenzeichen ist ihre spektakuläre Blumen- und Goldfischfotografie in Technicolor. Für die Künstlerin sind die Fische Glückssymbol und durch fantastische Lichteffekte atemberaubend lebendig und expressiv stilisiert. Magisch leuchtend heben sie sich aus einer schillernden Pflanzenwelt wie strahlende Popikonen ab. Intensive Neonfarben untermalen das Ambiente und die kontrastreiche Farbpalette ist überwiegend in Pink, Violett, Neongrün, Feuerrot, Kobaltblau und Orange. Das perfekte Zusammenspiel von Aquariumglas und Kameralinse verstärkt das Farbenspiel in sattesten Tönungen. Die Fische tauchen in ihrer Serie „Liquid Dreams“ als elegant schwebende ätherische Wesen auf, die in eine sinnliche Camouflage mit ihrer Umgebung eintauchen.

Seit dem Jahr 1997 hat Mika Ninagawa 35 Fotobücher publiziert, CD-Cover für Björk und ein Musikvideo für Alicia Keys produziert. In Tokio wurde 2010 ihre erste große Retrospektive gezeigt. Weltweit gehört Ninagawa wie Takashi Murakami zu den Künstlern des sogenannten japanischen Neo-Pop.
